Puneri Style Tomato Rice


Tomato rice puneri stlyle is a Maharashtra recipe and  with slight variation.. its tangy tasty and very spicy.. there are many variation in making Tomato rice this is my style...


Ingredients;

  1. Boiled rice - 2 cups
  2. Tomato - 4 medium (puree)
  3. onion - 2 medium size
  4. oil - 4 tbsp
  5. mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  6. cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  7. pinch of hing
  8. green chilies - 3
  9. curry leaves  -6 to 7
  10. ginger garlic paste  -2tsp
  11. garam masala   - 1tsp
  12. Sambar powder - 2 tsp
  13. tumeric 1/4 tsp
  14. tomato - 1 cut in cubes
  15. sugar  -1 tsp(optional)

Preparation;

  1. Heat  up oil in a kadai add mustard seeds , cumin seeds,curry leaves and  hing when it begins to splutter add onions and cook till it turns translucent
  2. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 mins
  3. Add  sambar masala and mix
  4. now add add tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric and garam masala powder mix and cook covered for 5 mins
  5. add cubed tomatoes salt , sugar, green chilies stir and cook for 2mins
  6. Lastly add the cooked rice mix nicely and cover and cook for 2mins
  7. garnish with chopped  coriander and serve hot with Raita or Pickle
